Working Together to Support the Military Community

Depression doesn’t just impact your mood. It can affect sleep, focus, physical health, relationships, and your ability to function day to day. For service members, veterans, and military families, unique stressors and experiences often compound these challenges. But you don’t have to face depression alone.

At Brain Treatment Center Fort Worth, we proudly serve the military community with advanced, noninvasive care for depression. Our clinic offers EEG-guided rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation), a medication-free treatment option that is FDA-cleared and tailored to your unique brain patterns. If you’re covered by TRICARE, you may be eligible for this treatment at no out-of-pocket cost.

While we’re in the final stages of securing TRICARE approval for our Fort Worth location, eligible patients can begin care immediately at our nearby Dallas or Plano clinics, where TRICARE coverage is already in place. We’ll coordinate your initial evaluation at one of those clinics and then seamlessly transition your care to Fort Worth as soon as coverage becomes active.

TRICARE-Covered Care for Depression (and PTSD with Depression)

You may be eligible for coverage through TRICARE if you’ve been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). If depression is part of your experience with PTSD, you may also qualify. Our team is here to help you navigate your benefits, verify eligibility, and guide you through every step of the process.

Working with Humana Military

Humana Military administers TRICARE benefits in our region. We coordinate directly with Humana to confirm your coverage, submit authorizations, and handle the paperwork, so you can focus on healing, not insurance hassles.

“Of all my injuries, by far the worst were the ones you could not see. I had degraded to the point of not being able to leave my home because of panic attacks and severe anxiety. I could not hide from this feeling, and no medication could numb it. At one point, I told my doctor I couldn’t kill myself because I have a family with young children that I am responsible for. It was a life of despair and physical pain every day without reprieve until I was able to get treatment. I underwent neural restorative therapy for two months with total symptom resolution. Now, I can function again at work and can spend much-needed time with my family. I have my sense of well-being back and a clarity of thought I haven’t had in many years.”

What is EEG-guided rTMS?

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. It’s FDA-cleared for the treatment of depression that hasn’t responded well to medication.

What makes our approach unique is the use of EEG (electroencephalogram) testing to identify brainwave patterns before starting treatment. This allows us to personalize your rTMS sessions based on your unique brain activity.

Key benefits of EEG-guided rTMS:

  • Noninvasive and drug-free
  • Minimal side effects
  • Safe for most patients
  • Customized based on your brain’s activity
  • Covered by TRICARE for eligible patients

Are You Eligible Through TRICARE?

TRICARE offers coverage for rTMS treatment where patients meet specific clinical guidelines. Here’s what that generally includes:

  • A diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
  • Limited or no improvement after trying antidepressant medication(s)
  • No history of seizures or contraindications
  • Evaluation and documentation from a qualified provider

Every situation is different, and our team will walk you through the process. We’ll help determine your eligibility and handle all pre-authorization steps with TRICARE.

Expert Neurological Care from a Veteran and Physician

Dr. Spencer O. Miller, Medical Director of Brain Treatment Center Fort Worth, is a board-certified neurologist and former U.S. Air Force physician. He has deep experience treating complex brain-based conditions, including depression, PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and more.

During his military service, Dr. Miller saw firsthand the toll that trauma, stress, and brain injuries take on service members and their families. That experience continues to shape his mission today: providing advanced, noninvasive care to help patients heal and reclaim their lives.

Dr. Miller guides our clinical protocols and oversees all care at the Fort Worth clinic. Whether you’re active-duty, retired, or a military family member, you can trust that your care is in the hands of a physician who truly understands where you’re coming from and is committed to helping you move forward.

“We have seen a dramatic change in Alex. He is so calm, happy, and positive. He wakes more alert. The man I knew that was inside of him has finally come out. We are so much closer as a couple, and the relationship with our kids and him is so much more functional. The VA has treated him for the past six years, and he’s undergone so much individual and group therapy, but it has NEVER had this positive effect on him. I will forever be grateful.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between regular rTMS and EEG-guided rTMS?

EEG-guided rTMS uses data from your brain’s electrical activity to tailor the treatment to your unique needs. It adds a level of precision that standard rTMS does not.

Does TRICARE cover all the costs?

TRICARE often covers rTMS treatment in full, but coverage details can vary based on your specific plan. We’ll verify everything for you before starting treatment.

How long is a typical treatment plan?

Most patients receive rTMS five times a week for 4–6 weeks. Each session takes about 30 minutes.

Is this treatment safe?

Yes. rTMS is FDA-cleared and has been shown to be safe and effective for many patients with depression. It does not require anesthesia and has minimal side effects.

Can I get this treatment if I’m on active duty?

Many active-duty members and TRICARE family members are eligible. We can help determine your individual eligibility and guide you through the next steps.
